South Israel

South Israel includes the Negev, which extends from Beer Sheva down to the Red Sea resort of Eilat. Steeped in the history of the Nabatean “Spice Road” and other ancient civilizations, the Negev has become a popular tourist site for visitors to Israel. In addition, Masada and the Dead Sea, although very close to Jerusalem, are also part of Southern Israel.

Many Bedouin encampments can be found in the Negev. Although the Negev is desert, Israel has been very successful with agriculture, with over 40% of the country’s crops and vegetables being grown in the Negev.
